Winter Windbreak renders a stand of bare trees at the edge of a snowfield, built from actual branches gathered and set into the panel rather than painted. Torn fragments of old paper — handwriting and printed text half-legible — are tucked at the base like something the wind carried in and left to catch among the roots.
The piece sits between painting and object: a scene you'd normally only witness from a distance made suddenly physical, dimensional, close enough to touch. It continues my ongoing interest in the space where nature and human trace overlap — the sticks are real, the paper is real, and yet the whole thing reads as constructed, staged, a small diorama of a season passing.
Note: there is a small, several-millimeter surface variation in the upper right corner from handling — cosmetic only, doesn't affect the piece structurally.
